In Ukraine, there is a trend to open bookstores of various formats, CEO Retail&Development Advisor (RDA) Andriy Lototskyi told the Interfax-Ukraine agency.
"This year, there is a real trend towards the opening of bookstores - both in malls and in street retail (stores on the first floors of buildings - IF-U). In malls, they are located in thematic areas, on streets - places with targeted traffic. This "RDA signed an agreement with Knygarna E in the premises of street retail. Now this operator is actively developing as a network," said Lototskyi.
According to him, such operators as "Bukva", "Bukvit", Bookling, "Book Club of Family Leisure" are also actively developing as networks this year. He also named Readeat (Kyiv) as an example of a good concept created this year.
Lototsky named the reasons for the increase in the number of bookstores in Ukraine during the war: the increase in quality novelties of Ukrainian publishing houses, the search for alternative ways of recreation, comfort and the desire to increase the sense of one's own identity, support and protection of the culture of Ukraine, which the enemy is trying to destroy.
Bookstores that plan to locate in shopping centers are looking for premises from 50 to 100 square meters. m; on streets with active traffic - from 50 to 120 square meters. m. Concept stores occupy the area in accordance with the idea of the establishment. The presence of a cafe is not a general trend.
"There is a request for premises in new housing estates of comfort class and above - from 80 to 300 sq. m (request "Bookstore Yes").
Among the very positive trends, all regional centers and some cities with a population of 100,000 or more are interested in bookstores," said Lototskyi.
